Origin and History
The history of Hinduism is unique because the religion has no founder and no date at which the religion was founded. Lots of scholars believe that it started in the Indus Valley civilization. Hinduism is the main religion of the people of India. The main beliefs of living are also represented in other countries as well. The origins and authors of the sacred texts of Hinduism are unknown. Hinduism roots date back as far as 2,000 BC, making it one of the oldest surviving religions. Many Hindus believe in a vast diversity of gods and goddesses; others believe in a Hindu "trinity" (trimurti): Brahman, Vishnu, Shiva; yet others claim an important monotheism, believing that all the gods are really one. Hinduism is said to be a vast and complex socio-religious body which, in a way, shows the complexity of Indian society.
Compared to Christianity and the Bible, Hinduism has no one sacred text. The early Sanskrit texts have not yet been unscrambled, making scholars
hypothesize with educated guesses the origins and beliefs of Hinduism. The two most important texts are
the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Both of these scriptures tell stories
of creation, kings, and conflicts.
