Believer Statistics
After Christianity and and Islam, Hinduism has grown to become the world's third largest religion with over 950 million followers. This totals to about 14% of the world's population.
Over the last twenty years, the population of people that support and believe in Hinduism has dramatically increased. According to the "American Religious Identification Survey", there were about 766,000 Hindus in 2001, growing to over 1.2 million in 2008. Over the years, the World Hindu Population Counter can only estimate that Hinduism has increased by about 1.52% annually.
In countries like India, Nepal, and Suriname, Hinduism is the majority religion while in places like Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Fiji and the USA, Hindus are the minority. Overall, Hinduism is found in 114 countries today thanks to the result of British colonization and the migration of Indians. These people were sent out in search of better economic prospects and are still doing this today. Indian professionals are still looking for certain industries like engineering and technology around the world.
